Art We Love: Shayne Dark “Bough Laden with Fluorescent Orange”
During the last couple of years, Sculptor Shayne Dark–who lives in the country near Sydenham, Ontario and who maintains a large studio in Kingston, Ontario—has become one of Canada’s most prolific and successful makers of public sculpture. Up until recently, his work involved colour-coating (usually with vivid, eye-searing powdered pigments) lengths of Ironwood he would harvest from his property or drag from the lake near where he lives. Lately, though, he’s been fabricating tree limbs from scratch. Shown here is his “Bough Laden with Fluorescent Orange” from 2012–made of forged steel and powder coated polyester.
The piece sells for $15,000 and you can see it at the Edward Day Gallery, 952 Queen Street West. 416-921-6540. www.eddygal,toronto.com
